Student Photographers 2007-2008 Honored
The Kingfisher High School student photographers have been recently honored at both the state and national level for their work. At the Oklahoma Camera Club Youth Photo Contest, Freshman Tia Ballinger was awarded Best in Show for her photo “Pretty in Pink.” Four other students, Michael Farrar, Justin Leitner, Janelle Burgess and Dalton Buck were also honored for their work.
Honorees from the Youth Photo Contest had their photos submitted to the Photography Society of American National Competition. Oklahoma had 55 photos selected for display and fifteen were from Kingfisher High School.
Recent graduate Janelle Burgess’ photo “Pre-Game Prayer” received first place in the Photographer’s Choice category. Honorable Mentions were given to recent graduates Michael Farrar for “Fallen Friends and “Friendly Stranger” and Justin Leitner for Ancient Walkway. Leitner received a first place in Photographer's Choice in 2007 for "Better Days."
Others selected for exhibition included Dalton Buck for “Breaking Through to Conquer” Tia Ballinger for “Pretty in Pink,” “Lucifer,” and “Heisman.” Also selected for exhibition were Michael Farrar for “Visionaries,” Justin Leitner for “Tower Falls” and “Peek-a-Boo,” “West Coast Sunset,” and “Better Days.” Representing the Kingfisher Schools Yellowjacket Academy, Travis Lee Hernandez had his photo “Innerdome” selected for exhibition as did recent graduate Janelle Burgess with “Guitar Hero.”
Photography sponsor Dr. A. J. Johnson said, “This past school year saw an extraordinary group of young photographers working at their best. They entered many contests and were complimented by the highest ranking professionals for their work. I was very impressed throughout the year with their dedication to the KHS Photography Program’s mission of service to the school. They came in early, stayed late, and got the job done. They are truly fine young photographers.”
“We’ll especially miss the leadership and fine examples from our recent graduates Michael Farrar, Justin Leitner and Janelle Burgess. They set high standards and next year’s photographers will have to work hard to meet them.”
