The 2010 Oklahoma Camera Club Youth Photo Competition saw the KHS Photographers account for about one third of all the winners including Austin Burpo's BEST OF SHOW.
Oklahoma Youth Photo Competition

On April the 27th the competition that the Kingfisher photographers had been waiting all year for, the 2010 Youth Photo Competition sponsored by the Oklahoma Camera Club, finally arrived, and KHS photographers were ready for it. Students who entered the contest were Dalton Buck (KHS Chief Photographer) and Tia Ballinger, Austin Burpo, Ben Ruhl, Caleb Deane, Aniessa Edsall, Thai Exchange Student Nattakan Santichairat (A.K.A. New), and Desiree Jones.
Austin Burpo won the Woody Gaddis for best of show with his photo “Facing Loneliness”. In the Photojournalism division Ben Ruhl placed first with his photo “ Deep Breath”, and Austin Burpo placed third in Photojournalism with his photo “Jump For The Lead”. Caleb Deane was an honorable mention in the division with his photo “His Dream”.
In the Architecture division Aniessa Edsall placed first with her photo “Shining Light”. Dalton buck received an honorable mention with his photo “Four Rivers”.
In the Land and Waterscapes division, Dalton Buck placed second with his photo “ Drop Off”. Nattakan Santichairat and Ben Ruhl received honorable mentions with their photos “ Human Paradise” and “Blue Sky” respectively.
In the Photographers Choice division, Both Desiree Jones and Ben Ruhl recieved honorable mentions with their photos “Alien” and “Sandbox” respectively.
All together, the KHS photographers accounted for one third of all the awards given. Each photographer was complimented by the Camera Club members and were told all their photos will be submitted to the national competition sponsored by the Photography Society of America.
Charles Willis, KHS Principal attended the awards presentation and thanked the Oklahoma Camera Club for sponsoring this important competition. He also praised the KHS students for their continued excellence in photography. Photography sponsor, Dr. A. J. Johnson echoed Principal Willis’ sentiments and told the Camera Club their work was truly meaningful. Three former KHS students who were big winners in past years are now either working professionally in photography or completing their professional studies and planning to enter the field.
Johnson also praised the Kingfisher Board of Education and administration saying their continued support and willingness to provide state-of-the-art equipment have helped the KHS student photographers excel well beyond their peers.
